Réalisé par Sophie Deraspe, j’ai vu ce film au cinéma il y a déjà quelques mois. On y voit le ravage que peut faire dans une famille le poids du passé et les difficultés rencontrées par le personnage principal, joué par Nahéma Ricci, pour se sortir seule de ce labyrinthe. Allez voir le Sprint Gala, Antigone s’y retrouve, du 28 mai au 21 juin 2020.

Comment parler de la discrimination envers l’autisme, envers la santé mentale à travers les faux diagnostics par la même occasion, à travers le besoin de certaines personnes de se décharger de leur fardeau sur les plus vulnérables, comment parler de racisme systémique aussi, sans parler de la discrimination religieuse en général et d’islamophobie en particulier ? Impossible.
L’idée ici n’est pas tant de définir ce qu’est cette forme de discrimination, mais plutôt de mettre en lumière une conception étrange, inhabituelle, une conception qui ne résulte pas du hasard, mais plutôt d’une réflexion étrange.
Comme pour le racisme systémique, le concept d’islamophobie ne peut qu’être accepté de par son évidence ; chacun ne peut qu’admettre la discrimination envers les Musulmans, que ce soit par l’habillement, par une « apparence » particulière voulant reproduire le plus fidèlement possible celle du Prophète ou même simplement par le rituel de la prière. Tout cela contraste avec nos façons de faire européennes ou nord-américaines. C’est dérangeant malgré nous. La grande majorité reconnaît cela et cherche une solution pour que les deux univers se rencontrent dans la paix. La première étape de cette conception est la même que pour le racisme systémique.
La deuxième étape consisterait à ne pas définir davantage le concept, à ne pas l’expliquer, à garder un certain flou sur sa signification. Ainsi, il suffirait de désigner tel comportement ou telle parole pour canaliser la colère que chacun vivrait face à une discrimination envers cette communauté. Je ne peux dire ma peine de voir ce labyrinthe sans issue ; des drames humains, un drame pour l’humanité.
L’étrangeté est dans la ressemblance des deux points : l’évidence de discrimination et terme accusatoire flou et culpabilisant. Autre fait troublant, le concept structuré est utilisé pour une minorité vulnérable, mais la rend encore plus sujette à des attaques surtout de la part d’autres minorités. Une forme de compétition autodestructrice entre elles suscitée par ces deux concepts : le racisme systémique et l’islamophobie.

We see the devastation that the weight of the past can cause in a family and the difficulties encountered by the main character, played by Nahéma Ricci, to get out of this labyrinth alone. Go see the Sprint Gala, Antigone is part of it, from May 28 to June 21, 2020.

How to speak of discrimination toward autism, toward mental health through false diagnoses at the same time, through the need of certain people to offload their burden onto the most vulnerable, how to speak of systemic racism as well, without speaking of religious discrimination in general and of Islamophobia in particular? Impossible.
The idea here is not so much to define what this form of discrimination is, but rather to highlight a strange, unusual conception, a conception that does not result from chance, but rather from a strange reflection.
As with systemic racism, the concept of Islamophobia can only be accepted by its evidence; everyone can only admit discrimination toward Muslims, whether through clothing, through a particular « appearance » intended to reproduce as faithfully as possible that of the Prophet, or even simply through the ritual of prayer. All of this contrasts with our European or North American ways of doing things. It is disturbing despite ourselves. The vast majority recognizes this and seeks a solution so that the two universes meet in peace. The first step of this conception is the same as for systemic racism.
The second step would consist of not defining the concept further, not explaining it, keeping a certain vagueness about its meaning. Thus, it would be enough to point out such behavior or such words to channel the anger that everyone would experience in the face of discrimination toward this community. I cannot tell my pain at seeing this dead-end labyrinth; human tragedies, a tragedy for humanity.
The strangeness lies in the similarity of the two points: the evidence of discrimination and a vague and guilt-inducing accusatory term. Another troubling fact, the structured concept is used for a vulnerable minority, but makes it even more subject to attacks, especially from other minorities. A form of self-destructive competition between them sparked by these two concepts: systemic racism and Islamophobia.
